Art

I'm a baby artist...at least that's how I introduced myself last week when we sat down as a school and talked about how God had led us to this creative arts DTS. You see, I'm "new" at this whole arts thing. Sure I've always been a crafty person, I enjoyed taking art class in school, and yes, I did play piano for several years, but for some reason I never came to the conclusion that I was an artistic person. It has probably been over the past year, more noticeably since September, that I have come to terms with this reality. Not only that, but I have been embracing it!

I suppose I have the fact that I needed to prepare for a Creative Arts DTS to thank, but if I'm really honest, the artistic side of myself is always one which I've longed to develop further. So in hopes to connect with the right-side of my brain, and also to fulfill a desire I'd had for several years I enrolled in a dance class in September. I was immediately hooked! I have been faithfully attending since then. As I did last year, I have also decided to join the photography students in the DTS during their lesson times. I'm very excited to learn more about how to use my new camera (which I received for Christmas...thanks Ma, Pa, Joel, April, Mike) and also how to use photo-editing software on the computer.

What excites me about the arts is that so many times it's able to cross language barriers, and pierce right to the heart. This is especially helpful in foreign countries or places where you are not allowed to talk about Jesus. It is also an effective means to bring awareness to specific issues. So during the next 2.5 months (and longer) I am purposing to become a better photographer and dancer. I look forward to being on outreach and using these tools to communicate the love of Jesus with others.
